Re: Whelk's Accrued Wisdom

Today's wisdom:

If Bullroarer could knock a goblin's head clean off with a club, he can knock yours off, too.

Re: Whelk's Accrued Wisdom

Thanks to Domiano pointing me in the direction of the "how to compile on Linux" page, I'm now able to MAngband in all its glory. I appreciate it, buddy. Today's Wisdom: There actually is a chance, however small, that Phase Door will teleport you away from that horde of monsters instead of deeper int...

Re: Funny Angband Video on youtube

Makes me wonder why I have so much trouble with it.

Re: Whelk's Accrued Wisdom

It's nice being able to work from home, though the work itself isn't the greatest (mainly dealing with grumpy clients on the phone and trying to help computer-illiterates fix their computers). Also, the wife sometimes expects me to help around the house since I'm already at home. My latest hurtle to...

Re: Whelk's Accrued Wisdom

Didn't get fired, but did have some issues at work that were unrelated to MAngband-playing. Resolved for the time being, so I'll see if I can become any wiser now that I'm working from home.

It's good to be back in the USA!

Day 4:

If the locals in a foreign country give you trouble and refuse to set up your Internet connection, you can always sneak in some play time at the office.

Re: Moving diagonally

At first I used the "Fn" key on my laptop to use some of the normal keyboard keys as a number pad when that key was held. It was a pain at first, but I got used to it. I don't think all laptop keyboards have it, but if they do, the numbers will probably show up blue on the (from left to right) 7-0 k...

Re: Wilderness corpses

Eh, I can't remember anymore, it was too long ago. Someone will find it eventually and be happy, I'm sure. All I remember is that it was waaaayyy out to the north, and a bit west. Death by Master Lich, if that helps pinpoint an area. As for a reward ... my eternal gratitude? Heh. I don't really have...

Re: Every new character should be able to get a WoR immediately

This is the reason I will just quit playing for a few days after dying. It's silly, but it's an annoyance to run down, grab gold and valuables, then run back up, buy a word of recall scroll, then back down again.

Re: Whelk's Accrued Wisdom

Moving to the other side of the planet - preparations have been sucking up a lot of my free time. Don't worry, I'll be accruing more wisdom soon.

Re: Setting escape to a macro

Identity macros set the trigger key to its original function. So in your case:

Macro options menu, (6) Create an identity macro, Esc key for the trigger.

Re: Wilderness is neat but scary.

Yeah, it was the northern forest. I don't recall how far out I was. The last number I recall bothering to remember was -1196, but I went quite a ways beyond that. The dark elven druids took a lot of arrows but I was able to take them out without taking much (if any) damage. The Master Lich was quite...

Day 2:

When you see a monster you're not familiar with, don't say, "Eh, I bet I could take that on - I'll stick to ranged attacks just in case."
