Re: Every new character should be able to get a WoR immediately
MAngband is an extremely well balanced game for the most part and the starting equipment of all the classes is supposed to give that class some useful items but it's also supposed to reflect the overall power and "feel" of each class. I don't think each class should start with an identical amount o...

Re: Every new character should be able to get a WoR immediately
Generally I just think it would make a lot of sense just to start with a set amount of gold, instead of pre-defined equipment. I know that I always just sell most of the EQ, and purchase something else, because the startup gear doesn't fit the way I play, or, the most effective for my char. Although...

Re: How do you get better resistances?
OK, this is good advice, which has lead to another. Does all items carry a resistance bonus, or is it only magical ones? And are there an easy way to "spot" this, other than watching the resist stats, and equipping/unequipping items? (I haven't seen many items with resistance bonuses in their inspec...

How do you get better resistances?
What is the best way to get better resistances? (Especially towards confusion)
Is it through ego-items, artifacts, rings, or something whole other?
I'm beginning to get so deep into the dungeon, that resistances seem to be a must, rather than nice-to-have :)

Whats in the next MAngband release?
Is there a some sort of roadmap / feature / todolist somewhere, so we, the users, can see whats coming in the next versions of MAngband? (If such a one is planned, that is :))

A question about macros
Hi All, I have two questions about the macros in MAngband, the first, is it at all possible to view the macros in-game, or is the only way to read the file by hand and/or upload it to the online macro editor (which works, sorta) Also, what is the difference between Command, Normal, Identity and Empt...

Re: What happens to houses when you die?
That is a VERY good thing, now I have to make some changes to my stats scripts :)Jug wrote:That is correct. This is a good thing, it means someone else can't steal your character name after you die.
You can delete the players savefile to free up the name if you wish.

Re: What happens to houses when you die?
Also, another player can't create a new character with the same name untill the server has been reseted. Is this default in MAngband? So, if I have played a Half-Troll Warrior named Bashus, with password XXX, even after I have died, another player can't create a new character named Bashus, with a d...

Re: Mining, shovels and picks
tactical advantages (like building anti-summoning corridors) 1-square wide corridors makes it impossible for uniques to summon helpers? (If it IS uniques that summon helpers) I've had a couple of incidents yesterday where all of a sudden I was surrounded by 15-20 orcs or the like, was that done by ...

Mining, shovels and picks
I have been playing for a little while now, and feel like I am beginning to get the hang of the game now (have a lvl 24 HT Warrior, that seems to be getting along famously in the dungeons) But, I was wondering about mining/tunneling .. Is it in any way worthwhile? I mean, are there levels and/or pla...

What happens to houses when you die?
I mean, when you really die, either as a ghost, or commit suicide? If you previosly owned at house, does it go back on the market, does it stay owned by you, and what happens to the loot inside? If it stays on the market, what happens if another player makes a char with the same name, does he/she ha...

Re: Stats script for your own server?
Another question has popped up, does MAngband write a "deathfile" when you die and become a ghost, or is it only when you die finally?
If it does, is it possible to distinguish between a death-to-ghost and a death-to-final file?

MAngband net protocol
Hi all, Are there any form of docs/text/writeup on the MAngband net protocol? I was considering starting up a Windows graphical client, using C# and XNA, but, before even trying, I wanted to look into how MAngband handles the netcode, and exactly how much of the work is done by the client, and how m...
