Re: What's your most stupid/silly death in MAngband?

A gear switch that left me with no low resists as a 6350' diving level 50.

Re: Potions of Healing

Zal, you're completely on-target as usual. I'll have to note, though, that I've never enjoyed "going around" monsters. I enjoy mangband for the sheer joy of ramming my character directly into the great wyrms and chopping them up. Given that, for me late-game playing at all is just pointless unless I...

Re: vault without enemies

Let me guess... someone cleared the vault and saved on that level. When you logged on on the same depth, it wasn't reset yet... Unlikely, since you'd need genocide to kill everything in the vault without clearing the traps or tunneling an outside wall (luring everything out implausible). I wouldn't...

Re: Space-time bubbles/bullet time and monsters running

having a time pass in a stable way actually made me better at roguelikes in general since I know how long resting and running takes, so I know to expect more monsters to spawn. All we can do to protect noobs is to tell them to be careful and expect to die until they get good. Having time pass stran...

Mugash still makes me think "ITS THE LOOT CONVOY!" due to games played before the shamans were added...

Re: Potions in the Inventory

I agree with your logic (and don't usually carry *heals with me). I should carry less =) However, I sometimes have multiple heals break, and other times use many more than I expect. I don't like to have to abandon a good vault after running out =)

Re: is this portable?

Should be. Until recently, it didn't even "install" as such, you just downloaded, unzippped, and ran the EXE. As far as I know there's no necessary registry hooks - everything is self-contained in the install folder.

Apparently, Morgoth is only difficult when he wakes up nearby sleeping monsters.

Re: Curious about poundy's playstyle

Quaffing a potion of death helps you revive all the high uniques from your list. If you drop all your gear before you lose only xp which is easily regained (of course this won't apply to spellcasters like mage or priest which would lose essential spells). However, doing this you can kill the unique...

Re: Wilderness hunt

I went for the third. Killed a drolem, got stuck in a forest, teleported out into a gigantic pack of ethereal hounds on the grasslands.

Survived, but that's enough wildnerness fun for me atm.

I love seeing MoDs wreck it up, and that's certainly the best. Also shows you don't need *healing* or life for Morg.. very nice win, and definitely deserved. Congratulations.

Re: To Morgoth!!! (Previously known as Thinking of lulz)

How the hell do you get +110 to hit? That sounds amazing... BTW forget about teleporting morgoth away. He would restore to full HP before coming back. And don't rely too much on permawalled vaults unless you have huge AC because the quaking hits will push you outside of the vault. It's nice but not...

Re: To Morgoth!!! (Previously known as Thinking of lulz)

Having plain heals is a good idea. Spam them as soon as you see yourself as a 6. Use *heal* when you see yourself as 5 or worse. However, seeing the stats of your char, I don't think the fight will last long enough to use your *heals*... I wish my warrior was that strong. For what it's worth, I hig...
