Re: fair death caused me to find an unfair bug

This one has been around for a while. I never dive with more than 50k or so, because only 32k will drop (if it drops at all). I'm not even sure this is a bug, since all money used to drop before the Crimson era. I think he might have added in a limit to encourage people to not dive while carrying th...

Re: Retired characters not listed in stats

Yeah I was hoping to see a character dump for Turin... maybe he had some final words of wisdom before he retired... or if it was auto-retire, something like "That looks like a cool vault"...

Re: Mangband.org rules

I appreciate that rule 4 was updated... not sure if anyone has noticed this yet. As for the ghost issue, this was an old rule created because ghosts could AI bug monsters to not chase after the live character, so anyone with ranged attacks could have zero risk. Recently this bug seems to be fixed, s...

Re: Mangband.org rules

I think that rule should be worded differently, as it only makes legitimate partying situations more difficult when you bring specific level ranges into discussion. To give some examples, there used to be something like a static party with Zal, Acenoid, and myself (and sometimes Didy) where we would...

Re: Client crashes when I make a certain macro.

My layout seems to be a bit different, the key normally is §, and the key plus shift is ½. § does nothing and I have it macroed already. ½ seems to bring up the options menu, same as pressing =. Ctrl+§ and Ctrl+½ don't even get recognized by the client, so they neither crash the client nor get accep...

Townie on crack

I was running around with +35 speed one day when I crossed over from wilderness to town and got assaulted by some Squint-eyed rogues waiting on the border. I suspect that maybe I just ran out of energy at that moment, so perhaps this is not a bug but a really really improbable (if somewhat amusing) ...

Re: The plan to fell Morgoth the magely way.

To me, it's not much different than fighting him on other servers, or on previous instances of the official server. You can have killed Morgoth any number of times before, and it will change nothing on the official server. I will probably always get a rush of excitement from fighting Morgoth, since ...

Re: The plan to fell Morgoth the magely way.

I always thought Priests with their infinite, fail-proof healing would have the easiest time. I've actually downloaded the MAngband server and used the GM character to spawn equipment identical to what I have on the official server, to see if I really could beat Morg. It's like a virtual reality tra...

Re: Wilderness corpses

I'd rather not see wilderness items disappear, since I like to inscribe things on the vegetables and barn items for the slight possibility that someone will run into them some months in the future. Also I like that there is always the possibility of using the wilderness for storage instead of buying...

Re: How do you get better resistances?

*ID* scrolls only appear in the dungeon or black market, you won't find them in common shops. Some players might sell them out of their houses, though. Be aware that "low" resistances are usually not hidden and will show up on the character sheet or when you press I. The following items are a few ex...

Re: Strategy Thread for Party Diving

Mage Strategy Mages are notoriously weak, and while they have some awesome damage spells, they easily fall to anything that can get close enough to melee. That's why mages benefit the most from partying: any additional @'s are meat shields that keep the mage safely out of melee. With someone else k...

Re: Strategy Thread for Party Diving

Priest Strategy It's generally assumed that priests will be healers when in parties. There are actually a few exceptions, but I do recommend that you set some party healing macros anyways, for emergency use. A Priest can easily tank for a Mage in a 2-person party, for example, in which case the pri...

Re: Strategy Thread for Party Diving

Warrior Strategy As a warrior, you'll invariably be called on to be the "tank". This means that your job is to get in the front of every fight and take all the hits so none of the other party members get hurt. This might sound like a rough job, but someone needs to do it! (And just between you and ...

Strategy Thread for Party Diving

Hey, I thought it might be nice to put up a thread for partying strategy, what with all these popular level 1 weekends! Feel free to share your own and help us increase the success rate of these dives... we don't want everyone going *SPLAT* right off the bat! I will probably be using a LOT of screen...

Re: Can We Have a Level One Weekend or Something?

Well the goal is never permanent: that one highly successful party originally set the goal of hitting 1000ft, then they recalled and shot for 1500ft. Assuming they lived, they would probably have made another shot at 2000ft, and so on. While this is essentially doable on Ironman, I think that the st...
