Wilderness corpses

Post by Ace » Fri 15.08.2008, 12:30

There's a ticket to make them go away...
I suggest leaving them on. yes, it's exploitable, but it ads atmosphere to the game and also its like finding something unexpected.

E.g. I started a new char, went to the swamps gained 10 levels, found dead bodies and made 1000 gp in cash. Later on i died anyway so it didnt really matter, but i think its just adding to the fun.

it would also be great if the players would drop a corpse :D

Specifically the suggestion is to have items decay over time. This won't mean there aren't any corpses to stumble across, it's just a sensible way to help tidy up over time. People tend only to pick up useful items so there is a gradual build up of junk, imagine how much junk builds up over the course of a year in our poor server savefile...

My longbow of extra shots is out there somewhere. Reward for return? Heh.

I dont think item decay is a good idea. Since enemies will pick up stuff, it will eventually just appear as apparently normal drops later. Also, remember how the server started with cabbages and stuff? Wasnt that awfully junky? It seems like a the equipment of slain adventurers lying around will be very good for the theme.

and in the end, if someone has fun to go 50x into wilderness with a warrior, die and sell his chain mails, well ... this person spent his whole evening by doing that while others powerdive to 1500 in the same time, earn the levels and get better items, so in fact it's a bad exploit anyways :)

I'd rather not see wilderness items disappear, since I like to inscribe things on the vegetables and barn items for the slight possibility that someone will run into them some months in the future.

Also I like that there is always the possibility of using the wilderness for storage instead of buying a house, so I'd rather see my loot vanish because someone picked it up rather than because the server ate it.

I never considered the server issue though. How much of a strain is our wilderness junk putting on the server?

Wait, really?

What type of terrain? What killed you? Roughly, what foot mark were you at? What's the reward?

Eh, I can't remember anymore, it was too long ago. Someone will find it eventually and be happy, I'm sure. All I remember is that it was waaaayyy out to the north, and a bit west. Death by Master Lich, if that helps pinpoint an area.

As for a reward ... my eternal gratitude? Heh. I don't really have anything of value to give. I don't really mind losing stuff, because it's fun to find new stuff again.

One of my characters went straight north and got killed by an Archlich there... so good luck :)

I, too, would like knowing who each corpse belonged to, perhaps adding an inscription with the person's name on each item when they die, just like when you kill uniques.

This actually would be pretty awesome.
