new class: Alchemist!

This is probably a variant idea, but whatever.

People always complain about the lack of consumables of various types. Instead of messing with the stores, Why not make a class that can create consumables, but instead of costing mana, it costs experience? That simulates stuff like tome's "collect random items for alchemy ingredients" without being a huge annoying hassle, or instantly overpowered if you can generate infinite money. It would balance the market, and alchemists would be a good source.

They would be great at magic devices and good with bows.

They would have alchemy items that are like spellbooks, each with several "recipies" that are just spells that cost experience. They would have fighting ability above mage/priest, but below everyone else.
Level 1 items could be things like, flasks of oil, ?phase door, ration of food, ?bless
Level 4 items could be -magic missile, 99arrows+0+0, !cure serious wounds, !hero, ?light, ?detect traps
level 8 - ?identify, -stinking cloud, !cure critical, !berzerk, _detect evil
level 12 - ?enchant armor, ?enchant weapon to hit, ?enchant weapon to dam, ?recharge, ?holy chant
level 15 - _perception, rod of fire, cold, elec, acid bolt, ?life, ?satisfy hunger
level 18 - _teleport, !restore stats,
level 21 - rod of fire, cold, acid, elec ball, ?holy prayer, wand of teleport other
level 25 - ?holy prayer, rod of drain life, elvish waybread, ?teleport level, -detection
level 30 - !healing, ?teleport, wand of dragons breath
level 40 - ?*enchant weapon*, ?*enchant armor*, 99+0+0 seeker arrows/bolts/mithril shots
level 45 - !*heal*, ?genocide, ?destruction,
level 50 - !life, _genocide, _destruction, ?aquirement

This way, they play like a caster who is conservative about using spells. You would usually end with a higher money to experience ratio than all other classes, making you feel like a twink, which is a fun feeling.

I second this, this sounds like a great idea. Id love to see this implemented, id play a class like that.
