Quest rewards do not have to be a lot of money or some pretty good items. They can be items that only Gandalf can make.
For example, a ring of int (+0), or a amulet of speed (+6), Broken dagger of fury (-2,-4) (+3)

This way it would kind of be a status thing to have these items. This would make it pretty cool to do quests instead of take the safe route and grind.

A few of the quest items have actually been items like that, as well as some of the artifact replacements (cambeleg replacement comes to mind). However I've kinda preferred to not go outside the "real" game world, but it's fun to do occasionally. I probably prefer the cruel jokes though, such as in the quest that had a blasted power dragon scale mail 0,+0 :)

If the reward is a PDSM, you don't bloody care if it's blasted or not as long as I got all the resists heh...

It makes it slightly more difficult to use it though, assuming you're at least at balance DSM depth :)
