Just found out that this is not related to new houses: in certain circumstances, you can drop artifacts above their base depth. An easy way to do this:
- fill your inventory completely, minus one item (up to slot v)
- select an artifact currently WIELDED, check slot (weapon, armor...)
- fill the last inventory slot with 2 items matching the slot chosen at the previous step: for example, buy 2 small leather shields in shop 2 if you currently wield an artifact shield
- press w and wield one of the two previous items: the game will allow you to wield the item, and will drop your artifact on the ground!

From do_cmd_wield() in cmd3.c:

Code: Select all

	/* Hack -- MAngband-specific: if it is an artifact and pack is full, base depth must match */
	if (item < 0 && artifact_p(x_ptr) && !inven_carry_okay(Ind, x_ptr) && (p_ptr->dun_depth < a_info[x_ptr->name1].level))
	{
		object_desc(Ind, o_name, x_ptr, FALSE, 0);
		msg_format(Ind, "Your pack is full and you can't drop %s here.", o_name);
		return;
	}
So the code only checks for artifacts if you try to wield something from the ground when your pack is full. Definitely a bug...

I went to the MAngband Developer Portal and logged in with my account. Seems that I cannot file bug reports anymore. Oh well...

Wow, completely missed that. Talk about giving the middle finger to everyone in the town square. Thats blatant!

Now would be a good time for Gandalf to show up, pick up these and drop them in the dungeon...

Ask yourself...

What would Jesus do?

He would forgive and forget.

But... Greyshoe would flip out and scream like a monkey with a piece of foot wear up his @$$ and complain about kids and fun.

yes sir. And that is the result of that. GLHF!

I would like to get 2 houses for my priest Zadig. I dont care too much about location, but would like them to be as big as possible. Money is not an issue. Let me know which houses are left.

I currently have houses at -150 1,4 7x8 and -50 3,4 7x6 - both quite small in comparison.

I more than have enough cash for it :D - and yes, I've had both houses since I was in the 30's :P

I just visited this guys house, its completely empty. Since it seems he isnt using it, could you return the money to him and sell it to me perhaps?

I can do that and I think I will. It's the faster option. Talk to me tomorrow, I'll be on either as Warrior, WarDives or Forever.

To top it off, the character that owns that house isn't even on the lvl 5+ ladder. So it looks like lvl 1 character owns am empty 184 square house. I think a few other big houses are also owned by what amounts to lvl 1 chars. Ill see if I can find some more.
