I think we hit the roof for max number of parties...

Post by serina » Sun 07.02.2010, 00:34

Just now, I tried making a new party, and I get this message:

"There aren't enough party slots!"

I disbanded a party with 1 of my other characters, and then I was able to make a new party.

Yes. We are aware of this and it has been fixed. Though the server needs a recompile for it to come into effect. We encourage everyone to check all their characters to see if they have any (small or no longer active) parties that can be disbanded for the good of the community.

After reading this I logged in on all my accounts to check the status:
5 Chars
1 Party (Shallow Diver's Inc)
1 Art

Guess I can't be said to occupy too many party slots, neither am I hoarding arts :-)

All my characters that were using "single player" party names are now Neutral again. I encourage everyone that use party names for just "customizing" their @ screen to disband their parties for now. I also encourage players with tons of party characters to disband parties which they don't often play...

Usually the admins do some "cleaning" when characters are idle (houses, artifacts). You could do some "party cleaning too"...

Here's a quick suggestion to greatly reduce the number of party slots:
- remove the "create party" command
- actually create a party with the "add player to party" command: if the party leader is neutral, create a party and add the player; otherwise, just add the player to the party

How would you name your party then?
I think just a fix of the bug would be enough.

Like he said, if party leader is neutral, create a party, thus one-man-party won't be possible.

Ohh I see now. That still is more confusing than the way it is set up now.

I too see how this might be confusing to new players... But what if you hit it from a different angle? When creating a party, you are required to input another players name, as a "co-founder".

For now, we did some cleaning up and all parties were reset on mangband.org server. To remedy the problem completely, some alterations, similar to ones suggested would be needed.

Also, not overusing the parties for 1-man parties and such would be considered good etiquette with the current system, as PW said.
