hey im a noob ...ill admit it...i play zangband and im pretty decent at that ...but when i play as a mage here i die very quickly..help? macro and equipment suggestions

Well, the first spell you should learn is Magic missile so you can actually kill things. Macro it by typing "3\e*tm1a[enter]5[key_you_want_to_map_to][enter][escape]".

Inscribe your book @m1, and you should be all set for the first few dungeon levels (1-5).
Be careful of high HP monsters. Jellies are practically unkillable, and novice warriors and paladins are dangerous. Most other single enemies are manageable.

I usually wait until most early potions are ID'd and I have healing potions and stinking cloud before I go lower than d.level 5, but thats because I'm a slow player.

The next spells you should get, depending on preference are detection type spells and phase door. I like light area and beam of light, but thats just me. Detect often. You dont want to run head first into an out of depth dark elven mage or something.

Or, you could get a friend to party with you. That tends to make survival easier at first.

Btw... directional macros should always be \e*tm, if you put the *t at the end, you'll be prompted for a direction and if nothing is targetable, you'll be stuck on a prompt. Easy way to get killed...

No... only qualta blade can do mage stuff. ONLY MAGE IS QUALTA BLADE!
