MAngband

I really need some hints for playing on laptop keyboards. Granted, they are all weirdly different, but some general tips would be nice. Sorry if that was asked before, couldn't find anything with search.

Basically, I don't want to learn rouge-like keyset, numpad is nonexistent and Home/End/PgUp/PgDn are scattered so counter-intuitively :( I guess, I'll have to resort to one of those, but if anyone can share his experience of easing the pain, I'd appreciate it.

I generally don't play on laptops because of this (same way I don't play any other games on laptops, laptops simply don't make good for gaming).

But if I were forced to play the game on a laptop (or if the need of MAngband got too great and I didn't have anything but a laptop), I'd make a dummy character and take the time to learn the roguelike keyset.

Zal apparently plays it normally, with 1-9 :)

And a few players have mentioned buying USB numpads for their laptops.

USB numpads cost as much as a cheap keyboard. Just get a USB keyboard or a PS2/USB converter.

But a keyboard takes up more space in the backpack ;-)

Mangband- On the Go!

Just takes a wee bit of practice. Play it normally with the arrow keys. When you need to go diagonally, you press 1,3,7 or 9. After 1-2 weeks of playing, it becomes fairly easy. Roguelike keyset is a nightmare for me, hehe.
