I actually tried to kill that ranger... Turns out it was Gorlim, heh. Bad dumb luck.

I really wanted the big grey D in the room for XP and potions, hehe.

You hit the Ancient multi-hued dragon.
You miss the Ancient multi-hued dragon.
You miss the Ancient multi-hued dragon.
You miss the Ancient multi-hued dragon.
You hit the Ancient multi-hued dragon.
You feel much better.
You have 14 Potions of Cure Critical Wounds {@q1}.
You feel much better.
You have 13 Potions of Cure Critical Wounds {@q1}.
The Ancient multi-hued dragon breathes gas.
You die.
You are poisoned!
Err... as a level 41 mage you really don't melee those. Use meteor swarm + rift to discard dangerous monsters without ever taking damage!
[Character Equipment]

a) a Bastard Sword of Gondolin (3d4) (+11,+15) {dark}
b) a Heavy Crossbow of Numenor (x5) (+12,+19) {regen}
c) a Ring of Speed (+6)
d) a Ring of Constitution (+4)
e) an Amulet of Speed (+3)
f) a Feanorian Lamp
g) Bronze Dragon Scale Mail (-2) [30,+26] {confusion}
h) The Cloak 'Holcolleth' [1,+10] (+2)
i) a Large Leather Shield of the Avari [4,+18] (+1) {Blind}
j) a Golden Crown of Telepathy [0,+11]
k) a Set of Leather Gloves of the Istari (+3,+5) [1,+9] (+3) {disenchant}
l) a Pair of Soft Leather Boots of Speed [2,+10] (+6)
Here you made a huge mistake. This set of gear gives you +17 speed and 496 hps (18/140 con). Since +6 speed won't make you go anywhere, you must replace that speed ring by a con ring. A level 41 mage with 18/200 con has roughly 750 hps, this is more important than +6 speed when you already have more than +10 (haste will give you +20, and that's more than enough until you dive below 4000ft).

[Character Equipment]

a) a Scimitar (Blessed) (2d5) (+9,+9) (+2) {@w0!d!k!v}
b) a Long Bow of Extra Shots (x3) (+10,+7) (+1)
c) a Ring of Strength (+3)
d) a Ring of Slaying (+7,+5)
e) an Amulet of Trickery (+2) {!d!k!v!s}
f) a Dwarven Lantern {!d!k!v}
g) Hard Leather Armour of Elvenkind (-1) [6,+13] (+2 to stealth) {!d!t!k!v}
h) a Cloak of the Teleri [1,+6] {!d!k!t!v}
i) a Small Leather Shield of Elvenkind [2,+9] (+2 to stealth) {!d!t!s}
j) a Golden Crown of Lordliness [0,+14] (+3) {!d!t!k!v}
k) a Set of Gauntlets of the Istari (+0,+2) [2,+8] (+3) {!t!d!s}
l) a Pair of Soft Leather Boots of Mirkwood [2,+8] {!d!t!s}
When you have this gear at quite low level... you really want to have a lot of CCWs and teleport macroed, to avoid something like this:
Ulfang the Black hits you.
You die.
And...
You fell into a pit!
You die.
Level 27 paladin... just made me ROFLMAO.

You have 23 Arrows (1d4) (+0,+0) {@f1}.
The Arrow (1d4) (+0,+0) {@f1} hits the Vibration hound.
The Vibration hound snarls with pain.
The Vibration hound breathes sound.
You have been stunned.

Boldor, King of the Yeeks concentrates on his wounds.
Boldor, King of the Yeeks looks REALLY healthy!
The Earth hound breathes shards.
The Earth hound breathes shards.
You have been given a bad cut.
You die.
Lol... using arrows is probably not the best thing to do in such situation :)
As long as a mage has SPs... try teleport instead :)

The Master vampire hits you.
The Master vampire hits you.
The Master vampire bites you.
You keep hold of your life force!

You feel clumsy for a moment, but the feeling passes.

Dunadan paladin (midlevel) with plenty of mana left... sounds like Portal was not macroed.

NEVER go UPSTAIRS this deep. This char died instantly due to Z near the stairs. When you go up a stair, it can happen. When you go downstairs, all Z's are removed from near proximity.

Three mistakes here:
1) Missile attacks won't work against a lot of opponents
2) Don't quaff a CSW when you know that the next round you gonna be hurt for more than 18 damage
3) Basically... just panic when somone summons on you :)

[Character Equipment]

a) The Morning Star 'Bloodspike' (2d6) (+9,+22) (+4)
b) a Long Bow of Extra Shots (x3) (+22,+14) (+1)
c) a Ring of Damage (+15)
d) a Ring of Damage (+12)
e) an Amulet of Infravision (-3) {uncursed}
f) a Feanorian Lamp
g) Bronze Dragon Scale Mail (-2) [30,+21]
h) a Cloak of the Teleri [1,+8]
i) a Small Metal Shield of Elvenkind [3,+11] (+2 to stealth)
j) a Jewel Encrusted Crown of Seeing [0,+10] (+5 to searching)
k) a Set of Elven Gloves [1,+6] {good - Golfimbul, the Hill Orc Chief}
l) a Pair of Soft Leather Boots of Free Action [2,+9]
I don't see the point of that amulet... and rings of damage are completely useless for rangers, use rings of constitution instead!

Medusa, the Gorgon casts a fire bolt.
You die.

----------------
Diving deep enough for Medusa without basic resists = dying extremely fast. Swap amulet, armour, cloak or Orchish for something with basic resists (fire, lightning, cold, acid).

1 breath from anything D can kill you in 1 turn.

I don't see the point of that amulet...
You can use 'run' when you cannot see monsters. Maybe to flee faster, if they're simple melee types, or to kill a fleeing monster that has the same/faster speed as you do - You just let it get some distance until you can no longer see it in the corridor and then you just run after it and end up killing it, when otherwise you would not have been able to catch it without a dead-end. Having infravision can make this harder to utilize.

Of course, having a high speed and/or powerful ranged arsenal will nullify the effectiveness of this tactic.

But yeah, there are better amulets available :)

Note the huge number of times you missed Ancalagon. There's no way to kill a powerful unique like that when missing 14 out of 19 times. Improve your to-hit! Sounds like your priest forgot to cast "Prayer" (Protection from Evil helps too, and considering the fire/frost damage you forgot "Resist fire/cold" too).
