Suggestions on new custom MAngband items.

Have an idea for a great new base item or ego item? Post it here!

Please try to keep it within the Tolkien realm (but do not focus on the name as it might be changed if not fitting the overall picture of items). What matters is that the item has a genuine purpose, preferably one that was "covered" by an artifact in Angband and is not currently being covered by any existing or suggested items in this forum already.

If possible, say a few words about what artifact it "replaces" or how it "fills the void".

The slogan for this thread is: Make a difference, make an item!

:)

For new DSMs, I would suggest something from my variant instead of this that makes more sense:

- rename Pseudo Dragon Scale Mail to Shadow Dragon Scale Mail

N:506:Shadow Dragon Scale Mail~
G:[:o
I:38:10:0
W:70:0:200:60000
A:6:70 to 100

F:RES_LITE | RES_DARK |
F:ACTIVATE | IGNORE_ACID | IGNORE_ELEC | IGNORE_FIRE | IGNORE_COLD
E:DRAGON_SHADOW:300+d300
D:A suit of armour made of dragon hide, glowing with a strange light, or is it
D: darkness?

- Crystal Dragon Scale Mail: resist shards, activates for breathe shards

N:636:Crystal Dragon Scale Mail~
G:[:u
I:38:40:0
W:50:0:200:40000
A:12:50 to 100

F:RES_SHARD |
F:ACTIVATE | IGNORE_ACID | IGNORE_ELEC | IGNORE_FIRE | IGNORE_COLD
E:DRAGON_CRYSTAL:450+d450
D:A suit of armour made of the hide of a dead crystal drake.

- Silver Dragon Scale Mail: immunity to cold (or resist cold? in my variant, the "base" DSMs have immunities to make them useful), free action, activates for breathe cold/inertia

N:637:Silver Dragon Scale Mail~
G:[:W
I:38:41:0
W:60:0:200:50000
A:12:60 to 100

F:ACTIVATE | IGNORE_ACID | IGNORE_ELEC | IGNORE_FIRE | IGNORE_COLD
E:DRAGON_SILVER:450+d450

- Ethereal Dragon Scale Mail: resist nether, activates for breathe nether

N:638:Ethereal Dragon Scale Mail~
G:[:G
I:38:42:0

Another idea from my variant: elven staff. A mage weapon, with regen ability, to give mages an alternative to regen amulets if they don't want (or have) access to a (Defender) or *Slay Troll* weapon.

N:643:& Elven Staff~
G:|:B
I:24:2:0 (I:21 for MAngband)
W:20:0:12:2500
A:33:20 to 100 (A:20/3 for MAngband)
P:0:1d3:0:0:0
F:SHOW_MODS | REGEN
D:It looks like a simple walking stick, plain and nondescript.
D: In the hands of a spellcaster, it can be a deadly weapon.

In addition to the Black Mace I might also create a "Black Axe", possibly a "Red Sword" (activates for fireball?) and maybe a new base item type "Steel Claw". Not sure about the latter.

"The Balrog of Moria used a flaming sword ("From out of the shadow a red sword leapt flaming") and the characteristic many-thonged whip of flame in its battle with Gandalf. In The Silmarillion, they also used black axes and maces.
Earlier writings also speak of steel claws and iron mail." (The Silmarillion, "Of the Fifth Battle", pp. 193-4)
