ICQ 200X - online contact list

hi,
a friend had his old icq 2000a running at home with his favourite contact list, and a new icq 2002 on my laptop with a contact list full of people he doesn't talk to anymore
now comes the problem:
yesterday i updated his icq 2000a to 2003 and his old icq 2000 contact list was mixed up with the other list from my laptop
can the online-contact-list-feature be disabled?
i saved the clean 2000a contact list, and could load it, but every time he goes online, the contact list gets messed up again ...
any ideas?
