i second that! where is easyhighspeed?  >:( I logged on to play my level 14 high-elf mage and it acted like it was going to create a new character for me. same thing happened with another person I know who played on this server. This was the only good server this game has.

PS. mangband.org server has a naga guarding the newbie log-in area. Every time you create a character on the main server the green naga kills you.

The naga is no longer there; new characters on mang.org are safe if you choose to play there again.

I see that the naga is no longer on mangband.org, but is anyone going to do anything about easyhighspeed? Again, it was a really good server. It was what made the game fun. I've already sent an email asking this to crimson@mangband.org .

PS. by the way, anyone know the direct host name for easy-high-speed?

Just so you know, Crimson has nothing to do with easy-high-speed MAngband. It's someone else's server. Their connection is flaky as can be, so it does sometimes go down for a few days while it is restored.

It's the only good server?? Hey...

I wasn't sure if it was one of "yours" or not. And, it is the only fun server for me. In all the others, you don't get much chance to level before you get swatted by rogues or packs of battle-scarred veterans. I admit that on EHS monsters could move a little faster, but I pretty much like the server how it is. Death carries a grave penalty with it in this game; it's only right that you should seldom find it.

PS. I've been wondering how I can turn off the block-walls and change them into traditional pound signs (#)? I like those better. heh. I've looked all over the mangband files and the mangband.ini.

To change the characters that represent tiles, look in the various .prf files in the user/xtra/ directory.

Anyone want to post more complete information than this? Come on, Domino, you know you want to  :P

What on earth is "easy-high-speed-mangband" ?

What differences were there between standard MAngband and this ?

u never tested EHS?
the  differences:
-u moved faster
this made it easyer to defeat monsters, since they kept normal speed...because of that the game got easyer for us to play and faster to acctually achieve the goal in the  game (defeat morgoth and  become  king).
also, when u defeated morgoth, you did not retire like u usually do,  u just stayed there stronger......

Generally I think people who develop MAngband are very concerned with preserving the "magic" of the game. For me and many with me I believe that is:

[*]To build a character, your own creation, hard work.
[*]To pay attention to details, monsters, equipment etc.
[*]To HAVE to worry about getting killed in a nanosecond.
[/list]

I think that might be some of the reason we haven't seen many of the easyhighspeed servers around, they're no challenge, they're no fun, they ruin some very important aspects of the game.

Giving newbies a brainless alternative to shoot'em ups isn't the main concern of most developers.

But, seriously - if all you want is to have a powerful character and feel like god and you aint got the skills to be  one - just start your own server, local on your own computer. Find Jug's excellent Windows Server, it's posted elsewhere on this forum. Start it up, log in as "God" - have a ball, you're +50 speed and you can just > straight down to 6350, generate a few GCV's and have a ball with all the nice shiny stuff you feel is the core of the game.

Just my 5 cents
