I agree. People, pick up after yourselves and don't log out... I just don't have enough time to reset your depth every two hours. I gotta sleep sometime.

I don't understand the lag issue, it seems to come and go. Perhaps it's our network backbone here.

There's a known bug that I can't find the reason for, and you guys are feeling the effects of that bug. The server crashes on level generation are sometimes predictable when I do unstatic that level via the DM char or the console, which happened a few times... but I just can't figure out why it happens. I'll repost this on the bug reports forum.

Also since I was feeling the effects of the server crashing just about anytime I tried to dive I decided to explore the wilderness.  As a result of running around and seeing massive piles of gear just about everywhere I've gone, I have come to the conclusion that there realy needs to be some sort of wilderness cleanup mechanism.

How about large packs of urchins?

You should get something that works while the players aren't there, such as telling it to unstatic a level after a day or so if it doesn't contain any farms or wilderness buildings.
I'm sure that seeing piles of loot near the farms and wilderness buildings is fine, as opposed to seeing it everywhere.

I think townie-styled guys would be best...the problem with townies I've found, however, is that they are smaller than EVERYONE, and you usually find them huddled in huge groups at the very edge of the map.  Perhaps setting 5-6 on each wilderness level, and set them so that they're fearless, would more than work.

The only problem with townie-like guys is that if you leave a pile of loot behind, it stays there for everyone else to bump into unless you make the townies move even when nobody is in the wilderness.

I like the idea of unstatic'ing the wilderness levels with the exception of houses or house levels..

Leaving stuff lying around out there for more than a day or so is rather pointless.  You can generally even rescue your own stuff in that amount of time if you've died and no-one's around.
