Just an idea, ignore it if it sounds stupid. Maybe some lights should provide different color lights. Wooden torches and brass lanterns would provide orange light, dwarven and feanorian lights would have there respective shades of blue, and arts would have a yellow light.
Suppose you have a Fire Brand weapon and a feanorian lamp, your light radius might have a radius 1 red light and a radius 3 light blue light outside that.
I don't know much about C, so i don't know how difficult this might prove to code.

That's actually been suggested in many other forms, and some work has been done to do it. The issue hit a wall when it was discovered light_spot() didn't support "different views" of light sources for different players, and it'd be quite annoying in play to have a mult-colored light. I'll let you know how that works out.
