I got round to thinking that it would be nice to leave
a message in the game for other players. Perhaps
saying that you would be on later, and fancied a
trip to 90000ft (but only in a party!)
Then I thought about the broken inscriptions...
Would it be a good idea for each character to have a
single memo page (a normal mang screen of text). This
would be simple to put at the end of the save file.
Messages and memos could go there if there was space
Characters would put reminders in the memo rather
than on every item in their house and inventory?
Leaving memo for other players
Re: Leaving memo for other players
It would indeed be nice to leave a message to my party members....such as: "I was last online on 3/14 1:59:26.53...."
However, it would get to be annoying when people use it to ask everyone for a rescue or for them to sell stuff.

Re: Leaving memo for other players
This is my solution, which can already be found on my variant server:
Notes. They weigh very little, and are always stocked in the General Store. The name is short, so decent inscription lengths are possible. If you increase the number of quarks to a much larger number, like say 2048, you won't run out of inscription room, and these become useful. They're immediately noticeable if you leave them in town because of their color (light blue/cyan.)
This is the ready-to-go k_info.txt entry, directly from my template file:
# 29 - Note
N:29:& Note~
G:?:B
I:3:64:0
W:10:4:2:1
P:0:0d0:0:0:0
A:10/4
However, if you want these to be even randomly available at the store, you must make changes to src/common/defines.h and src/server/store.c and reboot the server.

Re: Leaving memo for other players
The proper solution to this is a simple hack to the : list, instead of creating an new "void" item that does nothing else, and can be picked up or destroyed. While this was a clever solutuion, I"ll work at a more permanent one.

Re: Leaving memo for other players
Call me crazy, but I've always found forums such as this to be the easiest and most convenient way to leave messages for other players
