I am altering the game to make it impossible to perform a PK in town, using either spells, or direct melee.
As a side effect, (j) or stealing will also be disabled, since it'd be unfair to allow that, without a means of retaliating.
Also, please note, that wontonly killing lower level characters (called "harvesting"), is not without its downside. While I won't elaborate on what that means, take this as a warning.
This policy change will not be without its detractors, but I feel it still enforces the basic genre, but makes the server more playable.

Re: Player Kills, A modest change.
Understandable. A bit irritating, but meh. No worries.
What I'd like is a little clarification. Right now, killing someone is means for dealing with spamming/taunting/whining/etc. If someone's in town, and you can't kill in town, what's to stop them from bitching/whining/etc, OTHER than the thought that they'll never move because then they'd be fodder? I much prefer being able to take care of a whiner myself than complaining to you to deal with it.
Additionally, what of killing new characters of old people? So, say, Maedae sneaks around and makes a new character. I find this out and he's level 5...is it safe to hose him?

Re: Player Kills, A modest change.
Rules pertaining to PKills out of town aren't changed, it's just more work.
However.... Rules to "harvesting" lower level chars aren't altered either. A 39th level char "harvesting" a 5th level character better have a demonstrable gain, which is by my interpretation.
Aside from this, you always have the option of just logging off till they are gone, which is pretty much the only option most of "them" have now fearing being pkilled on site. I think this at least balances it out a bit.

Re: Player Kills, A modest change.
This would sit a whole lot better if it were possible to ignore someone's messages, and if nobody could fill every square in the town with flasks of ale {EY3 0WNZ0R J00R MOM POON-TANG OMG WTF LOL} ... catch my point?
As it is, I've had at least my fair share of annoying people with their precious macros teleporting me out of stores/on sight/randomly for no real reason. Then again, I've enjoyed a teleport war on occasion.
Maybe if you restrict use of magic in town to area light, self-buffs, and healing (if the target player is at less than 100%) then it will be better.
Harvesting... does that apply to situations where an irritation creates a character, annoys you until you kill it, then recreates, etc etc ad nauseam? If it does apply... what is to stop the griefers from their perverted pleasures?
What about indirect PK, like throwing a potion of detonations or polymorphing mobs around town (currently not easily traceable without searching the logs)?
Please elaborate on what you mean by "it's just more work."
I'm trying to help out, and find possible holes before *ahem* certain people *ahem* exploit them.

I'm sure you probably already know, but the code change to prevent pvp combat in town isn't working yet. I was in a shop and Seregros came bebopping up and we entered combat.
