Friendly target spells

Post by Paragon » Fri 02.05.2003, 04:51

Although the friendly target for priest spells sometimes
works, and sometimes does not, i think that it should
be available for more of the spells

Being able to remove curse for another player

Restoration, etc. would be really neat

Also, satisfy hunger etc.

Of course this should extend to mage spells too.

The mechanism for selecting the friendly target and
applying the spell is fine, but it is not possible to tell
if it works.

Should there be a limit on the range (5 squares? less?)

Actually it does say who's targetted but there needs to be a mechanism in place to choose who's targetted such as @(PLAYERNAME

I know Pern/ToME overcame this by adding pseudocode abilities to the chat window.
One of the major shortcomings in Mangband is that it's designed to be a multiplayer game, but the multiplayer strength (groups/parties) isn't developed anywhere near enough.  Probably all but the most powerful priest/paladin prayers should be party enabled.  Mages should probably get some such as Resistance but as a penalty should probably have half duration and/or NOT be stackable.   Priests should probably get MORE group spells.  Something to heal all party members in line of sight would be realy nice.  Group Recall could replace Alter Reality (which is broken anyway).  I fully agree that Restoration and Rememberance should be useable on others.  Should probably also add a Resurection prayer or make it a part of Rememberance.  Berendol are you taking notes? :D

I agree with all that, except that I think all spells should be full duration, non-stackable.  If resistance is the same time as the paladin res heat/cold it doesn't last long at all.

Well right, I was suggesting that there needed to be some sort of penalty for being able to cast them on others.  If you COULD stack then people would stack up thier friends and go at it.

I don't think that reducing the time at all is warrented...
sure, pfe will last quite a bit.. other than that, constant casting will be required to have any effect.
I would sooo much like to see level 50 people actually partying/playing together.  Right now, I don't see anybody doing it.  I can imagine a mage caster berserker, heroism, mystic shield on a paladin, and a paladin casting prayer and pfe on the mage, just before they take the tarresque.
