I hate beeing that n00b =) hehe, jk. That was a while ago =b MAngband should have the destroy-feature that ZAngband have, so that you kan press k, followe by y for yes to destroy an item on the ground.

The way I see it, we have three options in dealing with this horrific problem:

#1.  Press one additional key; (with autopickup enabled, just k x, with autopickup/askyesno it would be y k x, without autopickup g k x.

#2   Attempt to convince Crimson to add the destroy feature, therefore taking up his time, therefore reducing the number of other new features that can be added. (The destroy on ground feature would be useful for other things, though, such as dealing with loot from multiple monsters)

#3   Mana Ball all newbies on site, and their gear. :o  This would solve problem of newbies dropping stuffs/dying and leaving stuffs.  ;D However, it would greatly reduce the number of new players.  Also, according to the YABB message boards, pretty much everyone registered for Mangband is currently a "newbie".  The implementation of this idea would almost certainly eliminate the entire Mangband population except for the person with Mana Ball.

It might also be better for the game if BSV's were removed. If a newbie is killed by one shortly after entering the game, odds are he will quit and forget about Mangband, leaving his stuff behind and never playing again.

k from the ground is probably doable.

removing BSV's won't happen (again).  Life is harsh, and we end up better without players who simply aren't up to figuring out how to stay alive even in town.
Are you not entertained?
Is this not what you came here for?

he he he so why are there so many subjects? There are more subjects than members... some haven't been added to for more than a year... They should be removed because they are obiously not relevant.

Veto!!!!

Nah, seriously, we need to keep all the old posts so we can keep track of what good and bad ideas came and went for future development. I for one cannot remember most of the conversations I've had in MAngband - wish there was a chatlog feature on the client side - so it's good to have a permanent archive.

wooo, good to hear from ya berendol =) SpaceHunter here. hey, ur pretty much the brain of this game, other then crimson, develop something that allows us to log the chats in mang =) some plug in, or a little shell script lol :P

------------------------------------------------------------------------

What i hate is when newbs whine and whine about that they got killed by a player and got some of their EQ taken away, then they whine to the DM and DM tells the pker to stop or get the savefile deleted... seriously, if u dont want the server to be PVP, disable it somehow! jeeesh... Pete stop whinning newby pos, btw, thnks for a power dsm =) greatly appreciated.

The other thing that i hate, u get morgy in a *PERFECT* spot to fight him in, ur fighting, ur winning, all of a sudden the server crashes, u relog and 2 morgies are there! <doh!> happened to me 2 times now  :-/

Sure thing. As soon as you send me a [legal] copy of Microsoft Visual C++, I will put that chatlog feature right in.

In the spirit of this thread, here's what I absolutely, truly detest:
When someone plays several hours a day for MONTHS and is STILL a newbie. I hate that.

yey, found my log in and password so i no longer need to use TaintedAzure to post. and berendol, i actually have 2 LEGAL copies of MS Visual C++ ( dont ask why i have 2 lol, i blame it all on my step dad and his stupidity)
Sending it to u, prolly possible... btw, berendol any progress on BAE or any new features u will be adding? ( like displaying items too =] ) and to bad ur server is down =( was rather awesome, 1 of the admins on Cheezband is currently trying to develope his own server, lots of ideas i recommended to him are from ur server ( hope u dont mind... and if u do mind thats to bad =P ) also lots of new Dungeon ideas and such... would be much easier if we could contact u and such, but oh well, still nice to see that u and crimson are still alive =)

No further work on any BAE, AMPFI, et al is under way or planned. My poor Windows partition died due to an unfortunate NTFS partition splitting accident awhile back (I think I posted about this) and I lost everything, including the pira^H^H^H^H excellent copy of VB.NET I used to make it. It's a crying shame, especially since AEU was usable to the point of being ready for a beta release and now it's gone forever.

Anyways, I've been tossing about the idea of a super souped up Perl-driven rewrite. Wish I had time for that. It would require you to download and install Perl, which isn't exactly a simple task BUT I firmly believe every man, woman and child in this community should learn both C and Perl. And how to administer their computers properly.

I am easily contacted... you just gotta look a little harder to figure out how.

Any version of MSVC++ before .NET will not be sufficient. That's what I used to compile my slightly improved client (whose source also perished that fateful day)

Perl? Sounds like fun. What's needed?
